Request relevant information about the previous rent and any exemption the landlord says applies, preferably in writing. Read the agreement carefully, including the deposit, fixed-term conditions, repair responsibilities, notice rules and who will register the tenancy. Keep the advertisement and all correspondence, as these may help if a dispute arises; the RTB ultimately decides disputes based on the tenancy’s facts, and a solicitor can advise on a complicated case.
