At an RTB tribunal hearing, the tribunal panel usually confirms the issues in dispute, hears from each party and considers the evidence submitted, such as the tenancy agreement, notices, photographs, messages or payment records. You may be asked questions by the panel and can respond to the other party’s points, but the process is generally less formal than a court hearing. Hearings may take place remotely or in person, and you can usually represent yourself or appoint someone to represent you. The tribunal’s written determination will deal with the dispute based on the evidence and applicable tenancy law; check the RTB’s current guidance for hearing arrangements and preparation requirements.
