RTB mediation is a free, confidential process in which an independent mediator helps the landlord and tenant discuss the dispute and try to reach an agreement. It is usually carried out by telephone or online, and the mediator does not impose a decision on either party. If an agreement is reached, its terms are recorded and are generally binding on the parties. If mediation does not resolve the matter, either party may usually ask the RTB to progress the dispute to adjudication, where an adjudicator considers the evidence and makes a decision.
