RPZ boundaries are set through statutory designations by the Minister, using prescribed rent and market conditions and defined geographic areas; they are not automatically the same as county or town boundaries. An area may be described by local electoral areas, electoral divisions or other boundaries in the relevant legal instrument, so a property near an edge needs to be checked by its exact address. Use the RTB’s current RPZ information and map, and read the applicable designation notice on gov.ie. If the position remains unclear, the RTB or a solicitor can consider the individual tenancy facts.
