In Louth, a landlord generally cannot increase rent whenever they choose. For tenancies covered by the current rent-control rules, rent can usually be reviewed no more than once every 12 months and the increase is capped at the lower of inflation (CPI) or 2%, subject to the rules applying to that tenancy. The landlord must give the required written notice and follow the prescribed procedure. Check the RTB and gov.ie guidance for your tenancy’s start date and circumstances; a disputed increase can ultimately be assessed through the RTB process.
