Can my landlord increase my rent in Cork and is there a limit on how much they can charge?

For most private tenancies in Cork, rent can generally be reviewed only once every 12 months. From 1 March 2026, increases are generally limited to the lower of 2% or the annual change in the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), subject to the rules applying to your tenancy. Your landlord must give the required written notice, normally at least 90 days before the new rent takes effect. Check the RTB’s current rent-increase guidance and calculator, as exemptions and transitional rules may apply; the RTB or a solicitor can assess any dispute based on your tenancy’s facts.
