Being outside a Rent Pressure Zone does not automatically allow a landlord to increase the rent whenever they choose. A rent review is generally permitted only once every 12 months, and the landlord must serve a valid notice within the required timeframe. The permitted increase may also be limited by national rent-control rules applying to your tenancy, so RPZ status alone does not determine the outcome. Check the RTB’s current guidance, and consider Threshold or a solicitor if you believe the notice is invalid; the RTB can decide a dispute based on the tenancy’s facts.
