Galway was previously covered by Rent Pressure Zone rules, but from 1 March 2026 rent-control rules apply nationally rather than through separate RPZ designations. For most private tenancies, rent may generally be reviewed once every 12 months and increased by no more than 2% or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower. Different rules can apply when a new tenancy begins or where specific statutory exceptions arise, so the notice and tenancy history matter. Check the latest guidance on gov.ie or the RTB website, and consider legal advice if you dispute the increase.
