Ireland’s temporary winter eviction ban ran from 29 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, with some tenants receiving phased protection until 18 June 2023. It was an exceptional measure and is not a general, ongoing ban on evictions. A landlord must still follow the Residential Tenancies Act, including using a valid written notice of termination, giving the correct notice period and stating the lawful reason where required. If you receive a notice, check it against the RTB’s current guidance and consider getting advice from Threshold or a solicitor; any dispute is ultimately decided through the RTB process.
