For an Irish rental who pays any fee for protecting the depositthe landlord or the tenant?

A RentWise Team Answered by

Ireland does not currently have a general statutory deposit protection scheme, so there is no standard protection fee set by the RTB. If a landlord or letting agent voluntarily uses a private deposit service, responsibility for its fee depends on the provider’s terms and the tenancy agreement; it is not automatically payable by the tenant. Ask for any charge and its legal or contractual basis in writing, and do not assume it can be deducted from your deposit. If the charge or deduction is disputed, the RTB can consider the issue based on the tenancy’s facts.
