Ireland does not currently have a nationwide statutory tenancy deposit protection scheme, so there is no scheme registration deadline for landlords to meet. There is also no fixed statutory deadline for returning a deposit, but it should be repaid promptly after the tenancy ends, subject to lawful deductions such as rent arrears or proven damage. Keep the lease, payment records, photographs and messages if deductions are disputed. A deposit dispute can generally be referred to the RTB within six years of the issue arising, although earlier action is sensible; check the RTB website for current guidance.
