Wexford follows Ireland’s national tenancy rules; there is currently no separate county deposit-protection scheme requiring landlords to lodge deposits with a central service. A landlord or letting agent should keep the deposit safely and return it promptly after the tenancy, allowing only reasonable deductions such as rent arrears, agreed bills or damage beyond normal wear and tear. Ask for an itemised explanation and keep photographs, messages and receipts as evidence. If you cannot agree, you can apply to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), which will assess the individual facts; consider legal advice for complex cases.
