Louth follows Ireland’s national tenancy rules, and there is currently no separate statutory deposit-protection scheme for landlords to use. A landlord may generally request no more than one month’s rent as a deposit and should return it promptly after the tenancy ends, subject to lawful deductions such as rent arrears, unpaid bills or damage beyond normal wear and tear. Ask for an itemised explanation and supporting evidence for any deduction. If you cannot agree, the RTB’s dispute-resolution process can consider the tenancy’s individual facts; check the RTB website or seek legal advice for guidance.
