Limerick does not have a separate deposit-protection scheme, and Ireland currently has no general statutory scheme requiring landlords to lodge residential deposits with an independent provider. A landlord should keep the deposit safely and return it promptly when the tenancy ends, subject to any valid claim such as unpaid rent or damage beyond normal wear and tear. Keep the receipt, lease, photographs and communications about the property's condition in case there is a disagreement. If the deposit is not returned or deductions are disputed, the matter can be brought to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), whose decision depends on the facts; a solicitor can provide advice on a particular case.
