Cork follows the national Irish rules: there is currently no government-run tenancy deposit protection scheme, so the landlord normally holds the deposit. At the end of the tenancy, deductions may be made for rent arrears, unpaid bills covered by the agreement, or damage beyond reasonable wear and tear, but the landlord should explain and support any deduction. Keep your inventory, photographs, receipts and messages, as these may help if there is a dispute. If you cannot agree, the RTB can consider the matter through its dispute resolution process; check its current guidance or seek legal advice for case-specific help.
